Pastors Manny and Melissa Gonzalez with their three children

Senior Pastors

Pastors Manny and Melissa Gonzalez, along with their three children, are the Senior Pastors of Refuge City Church. Their greatest passion is to see people encounter the life-changing presence of Jesus Christ and discover the hope, healing, and purpose found in Him.

With a heart for the next generation, Manny and Melissa are committed to building a church where every generation belongs. They believe the Church is strongest when the wisdom of those who have gone before is joined with the passion and faith of the next generation. Their desire is to see families restored, disciples equipped, and believers empowered to live out their God-given calling.

Refuge City Church was planted with a vision to be a place of refuge—a safe place where people from every walk of life can experience authentic community, passionate worship, biblical teaching, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Together, Pastors Manny and Melissa are dedicated to serving the Antelope Valley by loving people, investing in the community, and raising up leaders who will impact generations to come.

The Official Articles of Faith

The Bible

  • The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.
  • It serves as the ultimate guide and absolute rule for Christian faith and daily practice. [1, 2, 3]

God and the Trinity

  • There is only one living and true God, who exists eternally in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • All three persons of the Trinity are equal in divine perfection, attributes, power, and eternity. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Jesus Christ

  • Jesus is fully divine and co-eternal with the Father.
  • Core doctrines include His virgin birth, sinless life, recorded miracles, and vicarious, atoning death on the cross.
  • Believers affirm His physical bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of God, and His literal future return in power and glory. [1, 2, 3]

Humanity and the Fall

  • Humanity was created good but fell into transgression through willful disobedience, inheriting a sinful Adamic nature.
  • Because of this fall, people suffer total spiritual inability to rescue or save themselves through human effort. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The Plan of Redemption and Salvation

  • Jesus Christ was the planned sacrifice from the foundation of the world to bear the curse of human sin.
  • Salvation is a free gift provided by God's grace alone and cannot be earned.
  • It is received exclusively through sincere, godly repentance and personal faith accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Upon salvation, the Holy Spirit regenerates the believer, making them a completely new creation. [1, 2, 3]

Water Baptism

  • Believers practice complete water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • It serves as an commanded, outward public sign of the inward spiritual transformation that occurred at conversion.
  • It is explicitly not viewed as a strict prerequisite or requirement to obtain salvation. [1, 2]

Communion

  • The church partakes in the bread and the cup to remember Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
  • They practice open communion, meaning any baptized Christian believer is welcome to participate regardless of their formal denomination or local church affiliation. [1, 2]

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

  • While the Holy Spirit permanently indwells every Christian at the exact moment of salvation, the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" is a distinct, subsequent experience.
  • This experience releases spiritual power through faith, enabling believers to live holy lives and operate in spiritual gifts.
  • Consistent with New Testament accounts, believers expect this baptism to be accompanied by speaking in tongues and other biblical manifestations. [1]

Evangelism and Missions

  • Following the Great Commission, the church is commanded to spread the Gospel message globally to every nation, tongue, and ethnicity.
  • The spiritual health and growth of the local church relies on active sacrifice and support for global missionary work. [1]

The Final Judgment and Future State

  • There will be a future resurrection of both the saved and the lost for a final judgment.
  • Those saved through Christ will be resurrected to enjoy eternal life with God in heaven, while those who reject salvation will face eternal punishment and damnation in hell. [1]
